    When Hardwired Lighting Is the Better Fit

    Hardwired lighting is appropriate when reliable mains power is available and the fixture will remain in a permanent location. It avoids solar charging limitations but requires a safe electrical installation suited to the site.

    • Choose the long-strip sconce for a vertical façade, entrance, or courtyard wall, and the bollard for a path, gate, lawn edge, or garden route. Both use AC power, but their beam direction, mounting surface, height options, and architectural role are different.
    • Hardwired fixtures use a permanent electrical supply and are not dependent on daily sunlight or battery charge. In return, they require suitable outdoor wiring, mounting, and controls. Solar products are easier to place without a circuit but their runtime and output vary with charging conditions.
    • Measure the wall and choose among the available 30–240 cm lengths, then verify voltage, fixed versus dimmable variant, control method, mounting orientation, cable entry, and clearance from doors or trim. Remote or dimming features should not be assumed for every variant.
    • Choose the 40, 60, or 80 cm height based on path scale and planting, verify the AC supply and mounting surface, and select the desired warm or cool light option. Plan conduit, base fastening, drainage, and spacing before the finished landscape or paving is completed.
    • They can, but retrofitting may require access for conduit, a junction point, a stable bollard base, wall penetration, and surface repair. Planning before finished paving or planting is usually cleaner. Have an installer assess the route and restoration work before selecting fixture positions.
    • Confirm supply voltage, wattage, mounting surface, wiring and junction requirements, dimensions, lumen output, color temperature, controls, and outdoor rating for the selected fixture.
    • Permanent mains wiring must follow local electrical and building codes. A qualified electrician is recommended for wet locations, new circuits, grounding, and elevated installation.
    • Some support broad ranges such as AC 85–265V, but compatibility must be verified on the product page and label. Do not assume every item uses the same voltage.
    • Compatibility differs by driver and model. Use only a compatible control or the supplied remote to avoid flicker, noise, reduced range, or damage.
    • Look for IP65 or another suitable rating for exposed locations, along with sealed wiring and corrosion-resistant materials. Installation quality also affects protection.
    • Choose height for coverage, glare control, sensor performance, and maintenance access. Aim light toward walking surfaces rather than windows or neighboring properties.
    • Turn off power, clean lenses, inspect fasteners, seals, corrosion, and water entry, and have damaged wiring or drivers serviced by a qualified professional.
