    • Use low-level pathway or disk lights to define driveway edges and walking routes, and add brighter wall, spotlight, or motion-sensor lighting near garages, gates, and approach points. The best setup often combines more than one fixture type.
    • The number depends on driveway length, fixture brightness, beam spread, landscaping, and how continuous you want the visual guidance to be. Prioritize corners, changes in grade, pedestrian transitions, and entrances before adding evenly spaced lights.
    • They can be useful along driveway edges and adjacent walking areas because they stay low to the ground. Place them outside vehicle tire paths and other locations where they could be repeatedly driven over unless the specific fixture is rated for that use.
    • Motion-sensor lighting is useful near gates, garage doors, side entrances, and other points where brighter light is needed only when someone approaches. It can complement lower-output lights that remain on for route guidance.
